The W. Hunt Harris House |
|
One of the most beautiful nineteenth century houses in Key West, it was meticulously restored by its present owner over the course of four years. It is a "mixed bag" architecturally,---as are many houses in Key West--- with its high-peaked Gothic-style roof over a Classical Revival portico with four graciously arched bays. This impressive door treatment with is large double-paned glazing resembles the Italianate or Second Empire Style. The house was commandeered by the Navy during the Spanish -American War for use as office space, Key West being the staging area for the armed services in that conflict. |
